2 Ships Passing in the Night

The weekend could NOT come soon enough! Tanner and I went out to the most delicious dinner with Steve and Vangie. Steve ordered me the Chilean sea bass and it was like heaven in my mouth. We indulged in good food, good company, and a great dessert and went home happy and satisfied!
On Saturday, I took Parker to swim and picked up some donuts and when he was done, we packed up and headed to the beach. It was a cloudy, chilly day and the tide was low! We had the beach to ourselves for most of the day and had a blast playing together and discovering tons of sea creatures and starfish. We stayed all day and right before sunset (late) Lauren showed up with her family to take pictures. Tanner took the kids up to the car to warm up and I snapped as many as I could get before it got too dark. But we got some good ones and Lauren was happy with the end results. (She was stressed) We drove through Chick Fil A and got the kids dinner, raced home and threw them in the shower, and then booked it to PF Chang’s to have a grown up dinner with the Duncan’s and the Hundley’s. Courtney and Robby are buying a house! Woo hoo! Dinner was so fun but I got a bad stomach ache- probably for spending most of the day eating junk.

I was released from the nursery on Sunday and called to the RS as the party planner/ evening meeting coordinator. I’m so excited! Parker taught a lesson in Young Men’s for the first time. Tanner taught Sunday School, too.  Tanner and I spent the day fighting and he was pretty mean to me but I had to bite my tongue cuz Angeluis came! Luis came straight in and made us the most delicious tacos! Love that man!!! The kids swam in the hot tub and then we got them all to bed, dished up our ice cream and had grown up time in the hot tub together. We stayed up laughing and talking until 11pm! Tanner and I were still fighting though... can’t remember why. But I DO remember him finally saying sorry. So I win! Ha ha THAT WAS A JOKE! Geeze, people.
The next morning, Angeluis took Parker to Disneyland. I spent the morning cleaning which was glorious. Parker is amazing but he totally stirs the pot when he’s home and it was nice to have him GONE. I met up with him around 1pm and helped him buy his pass. He has saved $150 for a down and is going to try and earn $20 a month to pay for it. I’m excited for him!
After I got him settled with his pass, I sent him back into Disneyland to meet up with Lauren and Courtney who were there with their kids (Monday was a holiday). Parker said they all fought over who got to sit next to him on rides and stuff. Angel and Courtney both said how well behaved Parker was- how he didn’t ask for anything (snacks and such) and how he was kind and helpful. He would teach the kids little games to play while they waited in line and shared his snacks. Made my mama heart proud!
I spent the next little while playing around Downtown Disney with Rayleigh, Jack, and Ella and it was so much fun! I just LOVE Disney! We picked out Disney Candyland from the Disney Store to validate out parking and then played at the LEGO store where the kids pressured me into buying them each a mini figure.
We came home and I fed them an early dinner and got them all ready for bed when Tanner came home and sat down with us to read bed time stories. After we got the kids to bed, we were finally able to sit down together to relax and watch a show but I fell asleep at 9 (before Parker was even home!) I’m such a party pooper.
Tuesday I was still mad at Tanner for some reason. I think I was frustrated that I needed too much from him and was leaning on him too much and he wasn’t meeting my needs. So I just need to pull up my pants in an effort to show him more grace and also be clear with my expectations and gratitude so he can feel involved and valued. When we are 2 ships passing in the night, he feels lonely and like I’m avoiding him. I feel busy and look forward to special time together. We are just 2 different people and the communication has been off. It doesn’t take long for us to cycle over to a rut. (Like a week). But anyways,
I got SUPER angry with Parker for not getting his work done and marched him down to the Junior High to pick up his registration packet. I think it’s time for him to go back and I need to just make the decision and sign him up and STOP arguing with him. I love him too much to let this get in the way of our relationship. We get along so well, love all the same things, can laugh and talk together about anything and he’s a huge help to me! I don’t want to be his teacher or a dictator. He’s a brilliant, amazing young man. And I think he’ll do great in 8th grade!
That being said, Tanner knew I was frustrated, came home early with 2 Nothing Bunt Cakes, and a giant bouquet of beautiful flowers. It was soooo sweet! Ok fine, I forgive you. We had dinner together, I helped him get the kids ready for bed, and then I escaped to BUNCO!
Bunco is the balm for my soul. I love these ladies so much! We stayed up way too late talking and I think we all needed it. It was wonderful and I’m so grateful for my mom squad.
Coming full circle is something Tanner and I are good at doing. We get off kilter, argue, hurt each other (intentionally or unintentionally), and we spiral. But we are both pretty passionate, we love each other so hard. We talk and talk and talk and then we come full circle. We set goals, apologize, bring back the humor, and remind each other that we are in this for the long haul. Cuz hey, it IS Valentine’s Day!!!

On top of everything else we had going on, Rayleigh had her 100th Day of School project to do!

Thanks for the cake and flowers!
