So guess what?
Remember how we booked a cruise way back in December of 2019 for November of 2020 and then the cruise was canceled and rescheduled for November of 2021 due to COVID? We were supposed to go with about a dozen other couples and everyone bailed due to vaccine restrictions. So, it was just Tanner and me and we were really excited. Until this week when Tanner started feeling achy and congested. We had to take a mandatory Covid test 2 days before the ship was go set sail and Tanner’s came out positive! Bye bye cruise. I pulled the kids out of school and instead of spending a week away on a cruise in the Caribbean, we are quarantining together at home. Could it be worse…. Yes!
On Saturday, I went to Walgreens to get my covid booster and the flu shot and on Sunday morning I tested positive for Covid and felt like I’d been hit by a truck. We are still trying to figure everything out. But we are staying home together this week- luckily, our schedules had already been cleared. Tanner and I are doing our best to take care of each other. But we are both extremely disappointed and not feeling our best. So it’s not been a good start.
Since we are home, we were able to ZOOM Stake Conference and we learned that our stake has been dissolved. And Jeremy has been released. Big changes! Our ward has stayed the same but we are now a part of the Ontario Stake. I’m glad we were home to receive that news.
I hope this week can be filled with healing, resting, and family bonding. I hope Tanner can relax and reset. I hope I feel better and that we can reschedule our vacation. By the end of this, we are going to be SO immune!
I’m thankful for my comfortable home, excellent kids, and sweet friends and family. Covid could not have come at a worse time. But it’s all in the Lord’s hands. I have faith this has all happened for a reason.
Funny thing that Ella said:
Ella: Why is my foot so glitchy? Feel it! It feels funny.
Me: Ohhhh, I think your foot fell asleep!
Ella: What!? No! Foots can’t fall asleep! They don’t have eyes!
Luckily, before we had to cancel our trip, I'd taken the kids to the library for the first time in a long time and we checked out a bunch of books! They are turning into great little readers! And I love when the kids' teachers send me pictures from school. Jack is learning to love basketball more and more but he comes home SUPER filthy. After basketball on Thursday, we took Parker to MCO and we spent some time at my parents' house. I loved seeing the beautiful journal entries my Dad saved! (Especially the ones about me) I tried to keep my distance from my mom and dad in case Tanner DID have Covid.... I am soooooo thankful they didn't get sick!!!!!!!!!
Friday morning Parker was able to go to the temple and I took the kids to Disneyland that night to watch the fireworks but I was starting to not feel so good on the way home.
Rayleigh cut out images of the toys she wanted and created a little book with the images taped on sheets of paper and stapled together.
By Friday of the following week, we were feeling a little bit better and I was really wanting some fresh air and vitamin D. With all our strength (Covid fatigue is NO joke), we packed up and took the kids to the Montage. It was a glorious 90 degree day and the beach was beautiful. Rayleigh and Jack ran straight to the water but there was a pretty intense shore break and Rayleigh got crashed immediately. She hopped up and said, "That was fun!" and a few older, retired beach goers commented on how brave she was. Yes, we know. We've been hearing that since she was an infant crawling furiously to the water's edge. The beach was just what we all needed and we were all so happy.
The week we spent shut up inside was a blessing in disguise. Never will we ever have the opportunity to be forced/encouraged to stay home together as a family. We watched lots of shows and movies, spent hours in the hot tub, stayed on top of household chores, and had sweet friends bring us dinner each night. Tanner worked a lot over the phone but was actually able to get a lot done and make good progress with his team. Parker completely rearranged his room and was a fantastic roommate. Unfortunately, we learned that he'd been ignoring his college classes and failed Spanish (which was VERY hard and he actually earned a B but the teacher adjusted his grades down due to late entry which dropped his grade to failing. I'm very angry with her) and his Astronomy teacher dropped him because he was flat out NOT turning in assignments while we were sick with Covid. That was merciful and he will take it again because he loved Astronomy, but we had a big talk with him about lying and being responsible. He gave me a BIG hug and sincerely apologized. Sheesh, you think toddlers are hard until you have a teenager!
The weekend was spent doing crafts like tie dye and Tinker Crates. The kids are getting excited about Christmas and have been coloring a lot of Christmas themed pictures which is so cute. And Ella and Rayleigh's Nutcracker performance is soon so Ella tried on her costume. Oh man! She's just adorable! We also had to miss the Primary Program and watch it via ZOOM. It was cute and I don't think the kids were too disappointed about missing it, but I am glad I was able to help them practice and hear their little voices the previous Sundays.
We are not cleared of COVID but Tanner is taking his full 80 hours and will be home next week, too. Ella goes back to school on Monday and Rayleigh and Jack go back on Tuesday. But then they go off track on Friday! Then the fun, festive holiday traditions can commence!
