The Ritz Carlton Half Moon Bay
Tanner and I spontaneously spent 2 fabulous nights at the Ritz Carlton in Half Moon Bay right before Memorial Day. Steve texted Tanner and told him to come up to a lodge near Sequoia- he was getting married! Come tomorrow!!! Tanner told me to find a babysitter so I called the Tolley’s and they said they could come stay the weekend. But the next day Steve announced that he had to postpone his shot gun wedding. Tanner asked me whether I wanted to cancel our plans to go out of town, stay home, go somewhere else...?? It was more than my brain could process (I am Chan the Plan, not Chan the Spontaneous) so I told him I would be packed and ready to go Thursday morning to anywhere he wanted to take me.
So he cashed out alllll the points and booked us 2 nights at the Ritz! Yes!
We drove up Thursday morning and talked the entire way. We talked about everything and the 6 hour travel time flew by. We checked in, ordered pizza, sat outside by the fire, saw whales spouting in the distance, and watched the sunset. Is this for real? It was beautiful. So relaxing.
The next day, we ordered room service for breakfast and then went on an adventure to Purisima Creek Redwood Preserve. It. Was. Beautiful. This place is otherworldly. We are so excited to bring the kids back there some day. Once again, we talked and talked and walked and walked. And soaked in all the nature.
When we got back, we are sandwiches outside and I read while Tanner was on a conference call. During this time I almost got hit by a golf ball! A bunch of super classy guys were playing golf (our room was right on the 18th hole) and one guy was goofing around trying to freak out the other guys. Well, he must not be too good at golf because instead of hitting his friends, he almost hit me! I had to duck out of the way and even spilled my chocolate milk! It was actually super hilarious and the guys felt so badly. They kept offering me beer which I kindly declined over and over until they finally just handed me one. It was the first time in 36 years that anyone has ever handed me a beer. But I made the decision long long ago to never drink alcohol no matter how bad the peer pressure got! Ok kids? Be like mommy and don’t drink!!!! It was pretty funny though.
That evening, after walking around the resort and taking it all in (masked and socially distanced, of course) we teed off too! I’ve never played golf before! Remember when I worked at a golf club before I married Tanner? I could have golfed whenever I wanted but I just never had the desire. I thought golf was going to be slow and boring but it was actually really fun! And it was like an Easter egg hunt every time tanner hit his ball to never never land and lost it. Ha ha I grabbed exactly ONE club and would hit my ball and run down the green chasing it to hit it again. This process worked well for me. Tanner, on the other hand, used allll the clubs and even had an app on his phone for who knows what. It was a blast and I’d love to play golf with Tanner again! Although, now I’m spoiled and I’ll probably demand an ocean front golf course that is on the top 10 in the nation list.
The next day we took a walk down to the beach before checking out and heading home. We stopped in the little downtown area of Half Moon Bay for breakfast and pastries. We didn’t do as much talking on the way home- just enjoyed the drive. I read and listened to my book while Tanner listened to music. When we got home it was like the kids didn’t miss us at all! Jack was the only one who acted like he cared. In fact, he called us one day in tears, just completely bawling because he missed us so much. I gave him the passcode to the iPad so he could play Minecraft and he was fine after that. Ha But I drove the Tolley girls home, we went swimming and had dinner, and then curled up together for family movie night.
It was an absolutely perfect few days away and I’m so thankful we had the opportunity to do it! Where to next?
