CHANG Goes to Texas!

It was about time Angel and I take a girls trip! My friends have proved over and over how flakey and unreliable they can be- especially when it comes to planning girls trips. But Angel said she’d go to Texas with me and I’m so glad! She played a dirty trick on me the day we were leaving and said she didn’t think she could go and I about died. I was ready to go alone, though! But she came and it was so fun!

Luis wasn’t too happy about her leaving and neither was Tanner but at the last minute we needed Tanner to take us to LAX and at least he made the sacrifice to do that! He also took the kids to MCO. Friday, Parker ended up taking the kids to school and staying for Ella’s Family Friday. I was so proud of him for doing that!!! (Tanner was going to go boating for work and ended going K1 Go Kart Racing) Desiree took the kids home from school and brought them to Big Air for a birthday party but Tanner met them there. He also took the kids to Aurora’s birthday party on Saturday and came to pick me up late that night. I was so happy to see him and he was kind and thoughtful about listening to my trip stories. I came back with a full heart and I don’t know why I waited so long for a girls trip!

So, Wednesday night we flew from LAX to Austin and Spirit and it was actually really pleasant. Amy picked us up and we stopped to grab some Mediterranean food before going to her parents cottage. The cottage was so cute, clean, and comfy! We felt so safe there and there truly was a sweet spirit abiding there. Amy let us borrow her car and we felt so lucky with all the hook ups!

Thursday we woke up and went to Georgetown for an early lunch and to walk around the charming town square. We toured Inner Space caves which was fascinating and I’m so glad Angel enjoys random things like that like I do! Who goes spelunking in Texas on a girls trip?? We stopped by the store for snacks and relaxed at the cottage for a little while before meeting up with Amy for happy hour and a good long chat!

Amy asks the most compelling questions and she’s such a joy to converse with! We got mock-tails and shared 6 appetizers and a dessert and it was the perfect girls night out.

Friday we spent the entire day in Waco falling in love with Magnolia. We ate some take our breakfast at Magnolia Table and then spent 5 hours strolling around the Silobration- smelling all the candles and feeling all the fabrics. It was so stimulating on a good way and got out creative juices flowing. We loved going into all the cute little shops and vendors and picking out gifts for people. The love music and darling atmosphere made it that much better!

We stopped by the Dr. Pepper museum for an ice cold beverage before heading to Bucees for dinner per literally everyone’s recommendation. We were overwhelmed and a tiny bit disappointed in the road side gas station. But it was a neat experience and now we can say we ate brisket sandwiches and fudge from Bucees.

Saturday was our last day in Austin so we cleaned up, packed up, and spent the day with Amy as our tour guide. We “hiked” to the top of Mt. Bernell and looked down on the Colorado River and all of the epic mansions down below. We visited a peacock farm and wandered around the UT library to witness a first edition Gutenberg bible! We walked around some beautiful botanical gardens, laughing and talking all the way. Our last stop was Rainey Street in downtown Austin for dinner. We each grabbed a different dish from some food trucks and sat together for a few hours. The vibe was so cool! Like, we felt SO COOL.

We made it to the airport and flew home easy peasy with full hearts and a stronger bond. I was so glad I could spend that time with Angel-she is so easy to be with. We’ve traveled together, grown up together, and know absolutely everything about each other. What can I say, Angel is my BFF!

I’m trying to convince Ang to go to New Orleans for our girls trip next year. Girls trips are good for the soul!

Fun times the kids had at all the birthday parties...
