Peterson's Do NYC

Everyone was tired and no one wanted to get up. And poor Jack was still not feeling better. I got up around 8:30 and got ready and slowly the girls got up and ready, too. The boys were super slow- mainly because Jack wanted to rest. He NEEDED rest. NYC is the WORST place for that. We had tickets to visit the American Museum of Natural History at 10am but didn’t get out the door on time. We walked to the nearest Target to try and buy a stroller for Jack. But they had nothing. Not even a scooter. We popped into several other stores but came up empty handed. Then, we braved the subway. For some reason, the subway stressed me out the most when anticipating this trip. But Tanner took over and we followed his lead and it was actually really easy and nice. When we got uptown, we stopped at a deli for sandwiches and smoothies. Jack perked up SLIGHTLY. Then we walked over to the museum and thankfully, we were able to borrow a wheelchair and wheel Jack around! Tender mercies! It was now noon and in my book, we were 2 hours behind schedule. So I decided to throw my plans out the window. We started off in the gems and minerals wing and that was a fantastic place to begin because everyone LOVED it. We breezed through the entire museum in 2 hours- hitting all the landmarks like the giant blue whale, the Easter Island statue, and the dinosaur bones.
After the museum we took the train allll the way downtown to Seaport Station to ride the Staten Island Ferry and see the Statue of Liberty. She’s always stunning and I’m so glad the kids were able to witness her majesty. We got a little delayed on the ferry. But everyone took it in stride. NYC is not for the faint of heart!
We then took the subway to Ground Zero to pay our respects. The memories of that day are still so shocking. Ground Zero is beautiful and we were able to share some stories of 9-11 day with the kids. We took the train and continued up to Union Square where we stopped for some incredible Italian food. Embarrassingly, the kids ordered their pasta plain. But they loved it and devoured it. The bread and oil was divine and it was nice to sit down and eat yummy food. Jack was feeling better, but still not 100%. We took the train back up to Times Square and got some delicious gelato for dessert which everyone loved. We ended the day with a little look out from our hotel and some pictures.
Everyone was pretty pooped- especially Jack. So we went back to the rooms for showers and bed. I helped the girls with some school work and read to them until they fell asleep. I’m looking forward to tomorrow because I love a good road trip! Let’s go!
