Twilight Week

I really wanted to take the kids to Idaho to play in the snow this week and I planned and mapped out a way to do it on my own- without Tanner. But, we decided to take it easy and not risk any COVID exposure before our big Hawaii trip. And plus also, there is no snow in Idaho. So maybe we’ll go in a few weeks...
We didn’t do too much: Rayleigh had Mia over to play and it rained but they turned in the hot tub and played mermaids. Jack and Parker went to Jill’s house. Then the next day, Rayleigh went to Mia’s house and Reed came to our house. It’s kinda fun switching up all the kids and they have a total blast. I played “Scary Momster” with the boys for a little while and they got a big kick outta that.
I had a dentist appointment and got some chores done... ya know, just living the dream over here. Tanner worked a ton and Parker kept plugging away at his first semester assignments. My Dad gave Parker some introductions to his favorite jazz musicians. He's caught the jazz bug after watching Soul. And I love it! It's so fun when he has jazz music playing while he's doing his school work.
On New Years Eve, we actually kinda stayed up late!  No one got together (we usually go to Jill’s) because we are all hyper paranoid about COVID before Hawaii. But I ordered Dominos and we did sparklers outside and watched the ball drop at 9pm. Then, when we got back inside, I thought everyone would be tired and ready for bed but we all snuggled up and did our tradition of watching family home movies. It was a really sweet way to end the year.
2020 will go down in history for mostly bad but a little good. I’m thankful for Tanner’s job security and the fact that we’ve stayed absolutely healthy. I’m grateful for my kids being home and happy. I’m glad we have such a perfect home where we can be content to stay inside or out in the backyard for months at a time. I’m thankful for technology that has kept us informed, connected, and thriving in the gospel. I miss the kids going to school, church, and going to the temple. I miss hugs and going to the movies. I miss walking around in public without a mask. I miss traveling although we were blessed this year to travel quite a bit.
I don’t think my kids will look back on 2020 and remember trauma or travesty. I think we will all remember movie nights, lots of screen time, and home cooked meals. Hopefully they don’t remember their mom constantly in yoga pants with no make up. Ha ha I am hopeful for a better future although I know it will take some time.
Here’s to more fun in the sun on 2021!

This was a fun surprise when I got back from the dentist.
