Ray's 1:1 Disney Date
I was so excited for my date with Rayleigh. She is full of love and life and if anyone deserved a special evening, it was her. We stopped at the Disney Store and shopped around for the perfect gift. She was drawn to the stuffed animals, like usual. But I convinced her to get pretty Minnie Mouse earrings and she looks so grown up in them.
Rayleigh loves California Adventure so we started our date there. We did up-and-down-scan-your-hand-rid
She, of course, couldn’t finish it because she’s just a tiny little thing. But I was so proud of her for asking for a lid for her pasta from a cast member. This is the thing I love most about Rayleigh. She is a problem solver. She’s confident and resilient. She didn’t whine when she got full and couldn’t finish her dinner or complain that she needed a lid or cry that she might have to throw it away. I didn’t even know they HAD lids for those pasta dishes. But now we know that they do! She went all on her own to ask someone for help and got what she needed without any problems.
This year has been super challenging for Ray. Her teacher is mean. She is unkind to Rayleigh and has not shown her compassion all year. Ray has needed several mental health days just to survive this year and to be honest, I don’t know that I made the right choice leaving her in that class with that horrible woman. But, Ray did her best. She has earned good grades and is still her happy, spunky self. I hope she looks back on her 4th grade year and is proud of how she rose above the muck and mud of her disagreeable teacher. I hope she remembers that in life, we will sometimes have to work with people who we don’t really get along with. But that we can still bring our best selves to the table and try again each day to be good. Ray and I have clearly seen the 7 Habits at work this year and how when they are NOT utilized, people get hurt.
Anyway, Ray is the best. She is positive and proactive and kind. She is strong and forgiving and a force to be reckoned with. I am so proud to be her mother. I love spending time with her, listening to her, and watching her soar in situations where others might fall. I can’t wait to see where life takes her. She is blazing a trail all her own and she is unstoppable!
