Christmas Eve Eve Cousin Nativity
This year, we were scheduled to go to Josi’s for the cousin nativity. Matt had borrowed a really neat crèche from his school and Josi had planned a super nice day. But they ended up all getting sick. In an effort to simplify, we rented the Ladera Clubhouse and it was perfect! It was a cold, rainy day. So having a nice place to gather inside, with all of the amenities that the clubhouse offered, was ideal.
My mom brought soup and bread and I brought drinks and some pies left over from our Relief Society activity. We had a great lunch and then the kids got dressed for the nativity play. Ben was the narrator this year. Parker was a shepherd, Rayleigh was an angel, Jack was an observer, and cute Ella was a beautiful Mary! She did such a fantastic job!! All the kids did! It was really such a sweet and meaningful program. I was so proud!
After the nativity ended, we opened gifts and cleaned up. It was a completely fine day and I’m frustrated that my PTSD with Jon has to put a damper on these special events. I’m working to heal but these things just take time. Rayleigh was very upset when her precious angel wings got battered by a cousin and ruined in the rain. My sweet girl. Jack was a little disappointed that with all of the handing out of gifts, he came up empty handed somehow- but only a LITTLE disappointed and that made me proud of him. Ella took her microphone and sang oh so loudly outside like the princess she is. Parker was in awe of Max’s light saber skills and had a great time with his big kid cousins. We drove home in the rain and sat through traffic but the kids watched a movie and were perfect.
This cousin nativity tradition is so powerful and I’m so grateful we do it. I’m thankful for the sacred traditions that bind us as a family and teach the younger generation the quiet truths of Christ’s birth- His gentle entrance into this world and the love and courage that surrounded Him. May we keep this sweet spirit with us all year long.
