My Birthday Week- I'm 41!

I wasn’t expecting much this birthday with it landing on a Wednesday and just barely returning to work/school. I’ve been feeling SO tired and just needing a BREAK from life. So I hadn’t planned anything and just let the celebrations flow naturally.

Monday, after work/school, we met up with Angel and the boys at Disneyland and had an epic afternoon. Angel and I created a super fun scavenger hunt all over the park with rhyming clues and hidden Pennie’s all over. We let them get treats all along the way, too, like churros, dole whips, Mickey pretzels, blue milk, and Mickey beignets. The kids had SO much fun and it was a blast being with my best friend running around the park with our kids. Their good attitudes and enthusiasm made everything magical. The craziest part was when Leo (3 years old) found a joint and said, “Look! A burrito!”

But the next morning, I was so sick to my stomach. I thought it was from over doing it at Disney and eating bites of all that junk food. But apparently the stomach bug is going around. So I had to call off (which I felt so badly doing) and I laid in bed all day. I got some much needed work done on my computer until the kids got out of school and then it was chauffeuring them from play practice to piano to soccer to mutual.

ALSO, Parker got his wisdom teeth out! Tanner, thankfully, was the one responsible for taking him and he did great. He was crying when he was in recovery and just said, “I want Emerald.” By the time he got home, he was fine and we both just took it easy. Did I tell you he got a job working with Tanner? He started on Monday and it’s pretty boring so far. But hey, welcome to grown up life!

Wednesday was my actual birthday! I’m 41! I really wanted to feel better and although I wasn’t feeling 100%, I was fine to work and the kids made it such a fun day. They made me wear a birthday crown and Mrs. Kliss got me little brownie bites to share with the kids. Some of my coworkers got my flowers and gift cards… I really felt loved and celebrated. The best part of your birthday is getting so many texts messages and phone calls from people all over who are thinking about you. I got a call from my Aunt Kaylynn which was a pleasant surprise and so sweet! And I got a nice call from Kim all the way in the Philippines.

Between and the hustle and bustle of after school activities, Tanner brought me a chicken bowl (which I could only eat a few bites) and a card with a surprise trip to Mexico!!!! (Ok, it wasn’t really a surprise, but we are pretending that it was). We are staying at Kim and Monte’s timeshare and spending 5 days at Xcaret parks with the littles. Parker is going to stay home and work. We are flying from Tijuana so that will be different- we’ll see how that goes! But we are excited! Thank you, Tanner!!!!!

Thursday I don’t feel GREAT but work was fine and then we had MCO rehearsal. I got a little upset with Parker for not getting himself up in time to go back to work with Tanner. He’s just on the brink of adulthood and my expectations are a little high for him. But not too high! He is doing his best and it will take time for him to mature and adjust to this grown up life.

Friday I visited the Braithwaite girls after work because hey, it’s my birthday and I really wanted to see my sweet friends! I LOVE spending time with Lisa and the girls and it was just so nice. We just sat and chatted for a few hours and I got to catch up with London who is now home from BYU and headed out on her mission to the Netherlands soon. And guess what? Emily and Abby are both pregnant and expecting just a few weeks apart! It was so fun seeing her and catching up. Life is so dang good and they truly are such bright lights in my life.

After my little visit with them, I headed up to my parents house and had such a fun birthday dinner with my siblings! Jon brought stuff to make the most delicious burgers and we had salad and strawberry shortcake and sat around the table for hours talking and laughing. We talked about movies a lot and said we need to start a movie club where we all watch the same movie and then talk about it over dinner. Good idea, huh? I felt so loved and cherished and it was nice being together with my family. But I was SO tired. Thank you mom for going above and beyond to host such a beautiful dinner and for my family for making me feel so special!

The next morning I had to wake up EARLY to get the kids to MCO rehearsal on time and work the traffic in the parking lot. It was kinda nuts and it was raining but hey, would I expect anything less during an MCO rehearsal??? The kids did great and they are all excited for their concerts this week! We grabbed chicken minis from Chick Fil A and then raced back home for Jack’s soccer game at 10:30. The girls and I sat and watched him play his last game and even though they lost (again) he attempted 2 goals and played so well! Go Jack!!!

That night, Tanner and I drove up to LA and attended a birthday party for Shelley and her roommate, Greg. The theme was “whoops! Wrong party!” So we did the easy thing and wore pajamas for a slumber party. It was nice driving with Tanner and catching up on the week. The party was cute and fun and we were able to get to know a cute couple names Jess and Aaron who just got married and have a little girl, Isla. Jess is an interior designer for celebrities and is super cute and fun. (I say cute and fun a lot). We got home around 9:15pm and got the kids to bed and it was nice to not be out too late.

Sunday I told Tanner I wasn’t going to go to church unless I could get my stomach to feel normally. I was sick on Tuesday and then my tummy was messed up all week. But, with a huge struggle, I was able to “work it out” and go to church. I was not feeling great so Tanner took my home after sacrament meeting and after we got ahead with all the laundry we didn’t do all week, we were able to sit down and watch a movie, sit in the hot tub, and spend a good amount of time reading and snuggling and got to bed early! Whew!

My birthday week was not what I was expecting but it turned out ok! It wasn’t too eventful but maybe that’s a good thing considering how chaotic life has felt lately. Here’s to an adventurous and relaxing trip to Mexico together and a mission call somewhere awesome for Parker!!! 41, let’s gooooo!
