Mexico Day 1: Stinky Travel
Who knew getting to Mexico was so complicated? So many hoops to jump through and hidden fees and so many buses, planes, and cars!
I set my alarm for 3am and woke up right away because I had cramps. Yes, I started my period. Ugh, of course! But we were very organized and hit the road at 4:30am and drove to the border. Tanner spent a lot of time getting us our immigration papers and our border crossing passes. We arrived to the boarder crossing at 6:30. We said goodbye to Parker and he drove up to my parents house and had a lovely day going to car shows with Gavin.
We took the cheapest airline that flies out of Tijuana and they had booked us all in random seats throughout the plane. Also, became we were flying out of Mexico, everyone spoke Spanish. So we had to beg to get seated together and luckily it all worked out because the plane offered ZERO comforts. So it was nice to sit between the girls. I think Tanner and Jack shared a row a few rows behind us. The Iplane smelled weird and all we got was a cup of water that I pray doesn’t give me montazuma’s revenge.
We arrived and it took a million years to get off the plane. We all had to walk down those steps off the plane and get on a bus that literally drove us for 10 seconds to the terminal. It was so hot and humid and I was ready to get away from people. We then took another bus to the rental car place and got our car. Tanner was my hero all day taking care of every little detail. He held all our passports and got the rental car and drove to the resort and got us checked in there. He’s the best!!!
The resort is so pretty but we are spoiled now that we’ve stayed at Xcaret. Our room smelled like cigarette smoke and the little pool on our balcony was green and brown so we called for a different room but it took HOURS. Tanner took the kids for a walk and then we finally just left to go get dinner.
Dinner was so pretty right on the ocean. The vibes were allll good and the chips and guacamole made up for the horrendous travel day. (Really, our travel day was very smooth. It’s just hard to travel so far away and to a foreign country…. At least hard for me with 3 kids and on my period and tired and hot)
When we got back from dinner, the bell hop was waiting to escort us to our new BETTER room. It smelled good and it was pretty and the pool is clean. We all got ready for bed and took showers and were careful not to drink any yucky water while we brushed our teeth. Now it’s 10pm in Cancun (8pm our time) and we are all in bed. I’m gonna shut my eyes because I am tired and I’m very much so looking forward to a fun day tomorrow! The adventures begins!
