Road Trippin'

My Mom and I buckled into the Red Velvet express and headed east on July 5th on an epic journey across the county. If we could have ripped the top off the car we'd be living like Thelma and Louise! Plus a 4 year old....

The Red Velvet Express could not have served us any better. The seats were plush and roomy, the AC cold, and the gas mileage generous. And the oil didn't leak or burn! (Monte MADE SURE I knew how to check it and top it off if necessary I felt really cool checking it at every stop, like I really know my way around a car's engine!) HUGE thanks to Monte for fixing her up real nice for us! The drive was smooth as silk. We drove about 660 miles the first day and stopped in Nebraska. As you can imagine, there was not much to look at once we left the beautiful rocky mountains The next day we drove on into Iowa and were able to breeze on into Illinois on the 3rd day.

We stayed at an OK hotel in Nebraska. We weren't asking for too much knowing all we needed was a good night's sleep and a decent breakfast. But we scored a REALLY nice room in Iowa! Top floor and executive benefits! We were high rollers for sure! We felt like we owned the place! It was fun to explore the area and get some dinner. It was a Friday night and the town was grooving!

My Mom and I are perfect travel mates. We've been all over the world together and we really seem to move and shake at just the same moments. We ate light and talked the entire time. She was the best copilot and we never got lost or had a hard time figuring things out. Well, unless Parker's movie ended. Then my Mom had to turn around in her seat and try to get another one turned on for him. Luis downloaded a TON of movies on to an external hard drive and we hooked it into the lap top and that kept Parker entertained for the entire drive. But, getting a new movie on for Parker proved a little difficult for my Mom. It was actually quite funny.

"Mom, you need to right click on the movie"

"I AM RIGHT CLICKING! I'M RIGHT CLICKING!!!"

Bang bang bang.

ha ha Oh man, I guess you'd have to have been there. By the end of the 2nd day in the car Parker had figured out how to open a new movie by himself. Good times. Oh! And the windmills and wind farms! So cool! Every time we saw them we were amazed at their size!

I am so thankful for my Mom's adventurous and generous spirit. Without her I would have never been able to do this drive. We made memories that we'll cherish forever and can now say we've driven coast to coast together.

Mom, how about the south of France next? Just a little beachy get away? Crepes for every meal?

I have the best Mom in the universe. :-)
