Parker's 14th Birthday
We tossed around a few party ideas to celebrate Parker’s birthday. We knew we wanted to involve a giant screen and a movie and/or video games. And we knew we wanted to invite as many people as possible. At the last minute, and after begging for Tanner’s help (which I HATE doing), we decided to buy a ton of junk food and candy and bring our big blow up screen to the grassy area behind the church. We turned Shrek on the projector but mostly the kids just ran around and played. It was all fun and games until the sprinklers turned on while they were trying to disassemble and clean up. But Parker had a blast.
His birthday fell on a Tuesday and my mom invited him to spend the night. If your 14 year old son gets excited about spending his birthday with his grandma, you don’t have much to worry about. We met my mom at the Shops for some clothes shopping and lunch at Islands. The next day, when I picked Parker up, my mom provided a lovely birthday dinner for Parker complete with yummy chocolate cake and ice cream. She’s the BEST! Rayleigh and Jack had picture day at school and looked so darling! And Parker and my mom and dad met Kari and the kid’s at the harbor for lunch to help celebrate Savi’s birthday, too.
Parker received lots of sweet phone calls and messages on his birthday. He is one loved kid. The girls are really starting to flock to him and I know it’s because he is genuine, kind, and trustworthy. He’s respectful and funny and smart. 14 years ago, my life truly began. Being a mother is the ONLY pursuit I’ve ever felt compelled towards. The day Parker was born was the BEST day of my life. He’s always been my little buddy- my right hand man. I’m grateful for his decision to homeschool during high school and I can’t wait to see how he grows and transforms with added seminary and college classes. I don’t know how he can possibly get any taller, but I’m sure that going to happen as well.
Parker, I love you so much. I know I might not always express it in the way you acknowledge it- I might not be the best at hugs and kisses or time and attention, but I DO love you and thank my Heavenly Father daily for blessing me with you. Being your mother has always been complete and total joy. You make being a mom easy and fulfilling. I’m so incredibly proud of you and love you more than words can say. I love our inside jokes, our shared love of Disneyland, and your perfection of Mac N Cheese. Keep doing what you’re doing. Stay on the covenant path. Serve others with love and kindness and remember who you are.
Happy birthday!!!
