June 14: Heaven

Yesterday was a very poignant, spiritual day. Bill Brooks' funeral was uplifting, inspiring, and full of love. The kids all shared hilarious memories of their dad and blew us away with their amazing musical talents. Kathy's brother played "Autumn" and the last powerful note hit me like a crashing wave. It was breathtaking. David also played a song that I can't remember the name of but it was written to invoke images of paradise. I kept thinking of golden sunlight shining through purples blossoming trees and... Disneyland. :-) Alisa sang a beautiful song she had written titled, "If I Believe". Oh it was wonderful. Kim and Parker were so reverent and played so well together. After the services Jon came over with the girls and we spent the afternoon playing. Parker was zonked by the end of the day. ;-)

Today I realized that a fervent prayer of mine has been answered. At first I felt shame that I didn't see it sooner but then I quickly bowed my head in grateful prayer. Since Tanner left it's been, at times,  difficult being a "single mom" and I felt my already "not so generous" patience level falling. It's something I repent of daily and pray for often. But, when I went to the temple on Tuesday I really focused on patience. Patience to get through this change, this chapter, and especially daily with Parker. Well, I'm happy to report that since then I've had enormous amount of patience. It's weird because it didn't even occur to me until I found myself laughing about things that only a few days ago would have made me upset. Thank you tender mercies.

Today I needed to finish the book we were assigned to read for book club (which was tonight). I started the book just last night so I woke up early and luckily finished it in time. ;-) My mom and I took Parker to the park this morning and then we went to Laguna. My mom had to work for a while so she dropped Parker and me off at the playground at main beach and we played there for a while and then walked down to the tide pools.

After my mom was done working we walked to the chocolatier and got sweets and had lunch over looking the ocean. We thought it was going to be a cool, gray day but it ended up being beautiful, sunny, and glorious! We walked through the Weyland gallery and Parker LOVED it! We may or may not have stopped at the candy store on the way out...

Book club tonight was fun! It's so great to get together with a bunch of highly educated, super sophisticated women talking about a very cerebral and powerful book. (Tattoos on the Heart by Gregory Boyle)

Tomorrow will be a day full of sunshine and music! Can't wait!
