June 30th: The Road Trip Has Begun- Vegas

Parker and I left Laguna Hills at noon on Friday. We caravanned with Mom and Dad to Barstow. There was a tremendous amount of traffic and it took 5 hours to get to Vegas but we weren't worried about it. Parker watched movies and I listened to music and we enjoyed the drive. I'm lucky to have such a good little traveler.

We got to Mona Kay's house right at 5 (the exact time we told her we'd be there) and I swear the song "Reunited and it Feels so GOOD!" was playing as the kids ran to each other. Picture all this happening in slow motion for the full effect. Then speed it all up to turbo speed and that was about how the kids were together. They were so excited to play!!! When Spencer came home from work we had a delicious dinner. Mona Kay is the BEST cook. We are so blessed with good friends. We met Spencer and Mona Kay when we first got married and moved to Vegas. Then they moved to Utah and we joined them there. Now they are back in Vegas living close to our old neighborhood. It was a trip driving through that part of town again after 5 years.

We spent last night (and are spending tonight, too) with Jeff and Andrea. We got to their house last night around 8:30 and I put Parker right to bed and then Andrea and I stayed up until 1am talking. We talk almost every day on the phone it's kind of crazy actually sitting face to face when we talk. :-) Andrea is such an amazing person and I've strongly needed her shoulder to cry on countless times since we became friends. It's not everyday that you meet someone you can share everything with and who really GETS you. She's my angel and I'm so thankful to have her in my life.

Today, Parker and I were able to visit one of my best friends from college at UNLV. Jessie was always the top of our class. She's so funny and such a good person. Right now she's working 2 jobs and has organized and directed a new ultrasound program at AIMS college here in Nevada. She's unbelievable! Truly. I look up to her so much. We were able to pick up right where we left off 5 years ago. It was so comfortable and easy and interesting! She has a son and when we got there she let the boys do some fireworks outside. They were thrilled, of course. She made us lunch and the boys played. It was really, really nice.

After lunch, Parker and I met Jeff and Ange at the Golden Nugget in old town Vegas (off Freemont Street). They have this epic shark tank pool that has a water slide that runs RIGHT through it. It was incredible. When Parker got to the top of the slide he freaked out and wouldn't go but I went and it was so fun! The pool was super crowded and a drunk  girl passed out in the shallow end... So that was exciting. Ha ha We had a blast at the pool and I was so glad we got to see it!

Jeff and Andrea are going back to use their room at the Golden Nugget tonight and I volunteered to stay with Mason and babysit so I'm on duty tonight! It's the least I could do from all the generosity they've shown us over the years. It will be a fun slumber party tonight! :-)
